What is the story on the glob of melted metal that you have posted pictures of a few times and say that it was a safe?

    Just curious.

You speak about the oilfield also. Was wondering what your job was?

I spent 3 years in the Gulf working slickline, then another 2 years in a plant building and testing all completion parts. Now I calibrate gyros for well surveys for the last 4 years.

That was my safe. All of my firearms were in there, along with 5 lbs of magnesium bars. I was moving it on a flatbed truck and it was struck by lightening. Destroyed all of my firearms, and burned for 2 hours...due to the magnesium.

Try another story. I don't buy that one.

I insured a trucker that got hit by a tree on the freeway. Try putting THAT into a claim report.

Had an employee that was driving an oil derrick down the road, looked down and there was a rat in his truck. He freaked out and tipped the oil derrick over. Explain that to an insurance company. Cause of accident? Rat.

The trucker that I insured was driving when lightning struck the tree next to the road. It fell right on the nose of his truck.

Why would you leave the firearms in the safe when you moved it? Wouldn't they bounce around and dent each other?

Oh no. Individual racks. Used a fork lift to load and unload. Should not have stored the magnesium bars in the safe. That was dumb.

It is a long story, but I ended up with 5-one pound bars. Have you never been in a swapping situation and ended up with some crazy crap? Well, that is how I ended up with it. I figured it was valuable so I kept it in the safe.

Still makes no sense, what is it good for, why would you keep it, and why for the love of god put it in the safe[?] Unless you were broke that year on 4rth of July and cut some up to make fireworks for the kids, been there before?

I just figured I could trade it off some day for something. I dunno why I stored it in the safe. Had other stuff in there too that had no real value. Just one of those things. Hind sight is 20/20 you know.

So now the question becomes what did ya trade in exchange for it, knowing nothing about it?

It worked like this. I had 10000 rounds of 308 LC, that I got on trade for some 38 Super brass. A guy wanted the 5000 rounds of 308, but did not have enough cash, so he swapped 3 FAL mags, $40.00 and an old single shot .22 POS rifle. While the trade was transpiring a guy walked up and wanted the .22 POS rifle and wanted to trade a box of "stuff" for it. In the box were 70 rounds of 460 WBY brass and 20 12 guage Brass Shot shells, also included was a bunch of just plain old junk. A fair trade. I still had 5000 rounds of 308, but now had some 460 WBY, and some 12guage brass shot shells and 3 FAL mags, plus the box of crap. Well...in the box of crap were 5 bars of something. I took them to a buddy of mine and he said they were magnesium. I put them in the safe. Also found in the box was a NIB old school gun rack for a 1963-1968 Ford Pickup, a coffee can full of misc pistol brass, and a rusty old powder thrower, no name brand.

I figured I would save the junk and take it to the next show where I bought a table.

    Happy?

I am just glad I did not take my Dremmel to it, as I was tempted to do a few times in the past. Probably would have burned a hole through the concrete floor of my garage. Gonna have to look around and see if I can find some more...might be fun to experiment with.

Yeah that would probably have been alright on accounta it has to reach a certian temp to combust but it Is neat when it does go up, it does to burn a hole right through the concrete and anything else its on, and nothing puts it out had to get special fire extinguishers at the shop for this s.

Yeah. Nothing like roasting marshmallos over your burning firearms collection, including a Kreighoff 500 Nitro Side By Side while watching it turn into a * of metal.

I have to call BS on this tall tale. Survivalist originally says it was ten pounds of magnesium and then later says it was five 1 pound bars. That is the problem with telling stories. You forget what the original lie was.[:D]
