My chives were in large pots. They didn't make it. Also the hot pepper plants I was trying to overwinter inside the house appear to have lost the fight. I've apparently been watering fead plants.[:0]
I started 32 ghost peppers seeds back in January...all sprouted and grew pretty good...went and transplant to larger containers and all but 7 died...and acouple of the living ones are on life support

What kind of light do you have?

    Apparently the fatal type..

The waiting for fresh cilantro ready to harvest is almost as long a wait as it takes to put a picture of half of filet of a fish on the web.

Well I'm living off the chives while waiting for the cilantro to come in. I've topped them off a few times already.

We're already in drought conditions and just had our last frost two weeks ago (or so).

In the next few days I'll be planting some peas, kale, and early girl tomatoes. Hoping it isn't too cold for the early girls.

I think we skipped Spring here and jumped right into Summer. Lows at night have been in the low 60's and not the usual rains that we get this time of year has it pretty dry. If you don't have heat yet I wouldn't think it would be too far away.

Well last year we didn't plant until after Memorial day and it was one of the coolest summers on record. Between that and the earwigs we got only about 25 tomatos.

Did you use Sevin dust or anything on your plants last year?

No but I have 3 containers of it for this year. Another thing I heard was ear wigs don't like cilantro so I planted some around the tomatoes this year.

Will you buy it again or not enough cilantro for your taste buds?
  • armilitearmilite Member Posts: 35,490 ✭✭✭

Yes I will buy it again that stuff was awesome. I made one batch with half Bakon mixed with the cilantro. Nothing like bacon and cilantro.
Then I made another batch with just the cilantro stuff. Plenty of flavor but not over powering. I use Major Peters bloody mary mix exclusively.
The problem with the Major Peters the "Works" makes it spicier and it tends to over power the cilantro. So I'll stick with their standard version that still has some spiciness but doesn't over power the cilantro. [;)][:p][:p][:p][:p]

Glad you enjoyed it. Soon enough cilantro will be as popular as salt and pepper.

Well this years garden really sucked. Got a lot of Zucchini and some kind of heirloom small tomatoes, the beefsteak tomatoes came in slow.
Kale did good but I don't really eat it. The sage and basil were so-so. The cantaloupes did not materialize at all. The onions I planted were not more then an inch in size. But the most devastating part was there was no cilantro. The plant must have been mislabeled at Home Depot as it really turned out to be Italian Parsley. I had to import all my cilantro from the liquor or grocery store. This summer we had the heat needed to make things grow and overall it seemed like a waste of time. I was let down by the lack of normal tomatoes but on a high note the sun flowers did thrive for awhile before the birds ate them. Well there's always next year.

Every year it seems like I struggle with something new. This year big white grubs with brown heads trashed my summer squash and something burned the leaves on my peppers. Then there was blight of some kind on my early girls and romas. Kale grows like weeds but the cukes were covered with powdery mildew. Still have a hard time eating it all.

Last year I had problems with earwigs burrowing into the tomatoes. This year I spread Sevin Dust around everything. No insect problems at all. Seemed to take care of the squirrels to,[;)][:D][:D]

Well the garden looks the same now as in the picture. Went out and trimmed the chives as they were flowering pretty good. We should already be planting but the Mrs and me can't make up our minds what to plant. I'm not sure about doing tomatoes this year as it takes to long to grow them here. I need to start some Cilantro as last years crop turned out to be Italian Parsley that sucked. Tried to grow cantaloupe and onions last year and it was a major fail. Not enough sun light and cooler temps. Zucchini and Squash do well so everything's up in the air right now but we'll have to do something by this weekend.

Good luck with the cilantro growing this year. Shame you wasted your time on Italian parsley last year, what a waste of great cilantro growing soil.
